I just read an article that today, November 17, is the World Prematurity Day, created to raise awareness every year for children who are born prematurely, their families, and all those who support them in any way.

Therefore I decided that today I write about an initiative I joined a few years ago as a crocheter, the Octo project, started in Denmark in 2013:
https://www.spruttegruppen.dk/danish-octo-project-english/
In this project volunteers crochet little octopuses for premature babies, as researches showed that the tentacles of these octopuses remind them of the umbilical cord in their mother’s bellies and make them feel safer. Find more details on this on above pages.

Crocheters from all of the world joined this initiative already, keeping their countries own standards on which yarn or pattern to use. So before joining this project, check the local coordinators, having in mind that in this project the pattern is for private use only and that selling the pattern or the crocheted products is prohibited.
So let me just share now the pictures on my “octo crew” made. 😊
Cheers, Judit
